Our Equipment & Tools

First of all, I give a lot of credit to Carson James/Buckaroo Crew. Carson James has a very extensive website/videos for self paced training. I really appreciate his approach. Its broken down into pieces to really drive home the outcome that you're looking for.

  • I've recently switched over to using a rope halter.
Got one for my birthday :)

  • Typically I use a Dressage Whip with a flag tied to the end. I like the shorter ship over the stick which sometimes feels too long. I use both but I like the Dressage Whip more.

  • I have a cheap western saddle to use for training. Especially since Tosana sets back while being cinched. King Series Brisbane Trail Saddle

  • I'm a big fan of the Myler bits. I have 2 that I use. One is simpler and then I have a slightly more pressured one. They look very similar. Myler Level 2 Sweet Iron Low Port WesternMyler Level 2 Eggbutt with Hooks

I am mostly going to be focusing on Tosana. Her and I have the most work to accomplish.

The items that need some attention are:

  • Setting back at the hitching post when being cinched

  • Relaxing at the wash rack

    • Ultimately being relaxed when getting hosed off/washed

  • Some Buddy Sour (we only have the 2 horses so we can never eliminate it completely but we can make it less stressful)

  • Spookiness/Confidence under saddle

  • Bucking/Bolting and some potential for Rearing

  • Proper Saddle Fit

  • Lunging more responsively

  • Focusing
